In May 2013 I convinced my husband to come with me to "Catch a Falling Star". The Eta Aquarids Meteor Shower was happening and I really really wanted to get a photo of one of those little meteors zooming past.
So we packed our chairs and a thermos and drove about 20min east from town and set up in a bit of open space on a dirt road that leads to Lake Julius.
So while I stumbled around in the dark with just my mobile phone to shine a light (yes - I forgot to get the torch from the car), I set up in a spot that allowed me to still see Mount Isa in the west and Cloncurry to the East.
I took lots of photos and played around with 'light painting' - by having our 4wd in the image and shining the torch on it for a few seconds.
I took a few shots that I told myself I could turn into a panorama - at the time I had no way of making a panorama - but I am so glad I took those photos. The panorama is my first attempt -and I am absolutely stoked at how well it turned out.
The image is made of six images all taken at around 50secs each, ISO 3200, f/4.5 on a Canon 7D, using 10-22mm wide angle lens. I have learnt alot from this shoot - for instance I took each shot on Landscape (horizontal) rather then Portrait (vertical) - if I had taken the images on vertical I would have alot more depth to the sky. I also would have needed alot more than six images.
If you are interested, you can check out the individual images on my previous blog: "Catch a Falling Star".
Can you see "Old Man Emu" looking down and keeping an eye on us all?
