Winter Rain, during the Dry Season in Mount Isa

Dry Season, Winters Rain for Mount Isa

Mount Isa is not normally known for it's "Winter Rain";  that's why it's called the "Dry Season".  However, this June, we have had 45mm in nearly 18 days (today is the 18th June, 2016 - and it still has a few hours to go - and it is still raining),  that put's this reading up there as one of the best since Bureau of Meteorology started taking records in 1966.

The best year for June Rainfall was in 2007, a total of 111.8mm was recorded at the Mount Isa Airport Weather Station.

Other great readings have been:
1985 - 26.2mm
1991 - 28.2mm
1998 - 29.0mm
and
2005 - 20.2mm

All other years, the readings have mostly been 0.0mm; so you can see why we are all just a little bit excited here in the Outback to have some lovely winter rain.
Heading South on the Diamantina Development Road (road to Dajarra)

The rain is thick, the clouds are low - makes it difficult to see the ranges in the distance.

My new found favourite waterhole - is looking mighty splendid with the water rushing into creating a foam on the surface.

I plan to return to this spot in the next couple of weeks to see what difference the rain has made.

On the way home we needed to wait for an empty Zinc Concentrate train, coming in to Town from Townsville.

The 'stacks' of the mine are barely visible, even though they are only about 1km away.
