Rodeo Drive - Mount Isa {NW Queensland, Australia)

Rodeo Drive, Mount Isa Queensland 4825

(Homage to the Biggest Rodeo in Australia)

Not Beverly Hills, California 90210!

So, it's not the high class you would expect from the US of A - but; it is a pretty awesome street to walk along and see some fabulous things!!

I have spent the last couple of days 'being a tourist in my own home town'.  Armed with my trusty Samsung Galaxy Note 3 phone, I visited some of the iconic areas around town, here is what I captured.

Rodeo Drive in Mount Isa will take you from the Mount Isa City Council, along with the ANZAC Memorial, Civic Centre and Library at the beginning.  Then you will pass by the Red Earth Hotel, The Isa Hotel, The Isa Cinema, The Coffee Club, Bella Duck (Kitchen and Homewares).

Continuing on, after cross over Miles Street,  you will pass by the Commonwealth Bank, Classique Hair Design and Ibis Verona Hotel, with a large parking area here also.

Over Camooweal Street, you will see Pharmacy First (Chemist), Kajavi (Gifts and Homewares), Dollars and Sense (discount store), Bell & Moir Toyota and  a variety of fast food establishments (including:  Subway, KFC & Pizza Hut).

Cross over Simpson Street, and you will see McDonald's and the Mount Isa Village (aka Kmart Plaza) - in here you will find (as of May 2016)  - EB Games, Kmart, Coles, Sanity, Chemist, Suncorp Banking, Isa Florist, Bambino Espresso Bar (coffee & light food), Prouds, Sunglasses Hut, Discount Jeans, Just Jeans, Nails & Massage shop fronts, OPSM, Newsagents; along with Commonwealth, Suncorp, ANZ and Queensland Country Credit Union ATM's.

It is here, near the Mount Isa Village that you will find areas for parking your car and caravan/camper trailer, or larger vehicles.

If you take the time to travel along Rodeo Drive 4825 - you will find some really lovely and interesting "Icons of the Isa" as you go.

The McPHEE Brothers (Gary and Robert) are synonymous with the Mount Isa Rodeo, or Rodeo in general.  From Victoria, they supply some of the best 'bucking bulls' in the industry.  Another name synonymous with the Mount Isa Rodeo is "Chainsaw" - just one of the McPhee Great's!
Gary McPHEE Allround Cowboy 1970.  Joint Winner 1991 and 1996

Robert McPHEE All Round Cowboy 1988

Rodeo is just not about the rider - it is also about the livestock; the "broncos" or the "bucking bulls". The plaques along  Rodeo Drive 4825 remind you of some of the amazing livestock that have never (or at least only rarely) been ridden for "8 Seconds"

Blondie the Bronco, along with Chainsaw the Bull is currently a Mascot for the Mount Isa Rodeo - come along and check them out!

The John Campbell Miles Memorial Clock Tower, cnr Miles Street & Rodeo Drive.

The Mount Isa  Clock Tower provides the last resting place for John Campbell Miles, whose discovery of lead ore in 1923 resulted in the birth of Mount Isa.

Situated around the base of the Clock Tower are four plaques denoting specific interests to the Mount Isa region:  The Kalkadoon People ( Traditional Owners), Mineral Heritage, Rodeo Captital as well as a description regarding the logo for the Mount Isa r
