Mount Isa (well North West Queensland in general) does not have "Four Seasons" - we generally have TWO - Wet and Dry!
Our Wet Season happens from around November through to April. Thankfully, this year (2015) it looks like we may just have a Wet Season after many years of failed attempts.
The Mount Isa District can usually expect around 400mm of rain during the six months wet season.
This covers an area from Camooweal, half way to Cloncurry. A total of just over 43,000sq km.
Lately this area has not been getting its average rainfall amount. The impact upon the graziers has been devastating.
While this Lightning Storm was amazing to watch; it did not bring alot of much need rain. Rain that would help fill dams or help rejuvenate native grasses that feed stock, such as cattle, but also native animals.
I, for one, really wish we get more rain. Whilst a good down pour can isolate the many towns in North West Queensland (such as flooding roads), and therefore hamper food deliveries to our supermarkets; it can however benefit the many properties in this region that supply our supermarkets with our food (meat and vegetable).
I hope you enjoy Nature's Lightshow, that was unexpectedly on display Thursday, 5 November 2015.
