Sunrock is about 50km east of Mount Isa, on the Cloncurry Road, just before the Mount Frosty Turnoff. There is a small carpark area that you walk from to see the waterhole and Kalkadoon (local Indigenous tribe) Rock Art.
It is said this area was once used for initiating young Kalkadoon boys to become men.
There is a lovely waterhole at the base of large rock that would receive all the wonderful morning light, and a little way up is a lovely Billabong.
Sadly, on our visit - both areas of water were teeming with Cane Toad Tadpoles or Toadlets - and this made it all rather uninviting.
It is however a wonderful place to visit.

How Awesome is this marking on the Bark of (what I believe is) a Kurrajong or Bottle Tree (Brachychiton Populneus). Sorry Tassie - it seems you have become joined to the mainland in this instance. |
