Mixed Bag Weekend!! {Mount Isa}

So......... that was the weekend that was Friday 13th through to Sunday the 15th December - for North West Queensland at least!

Friday 13th, December 2013 was celebrated with Fireworks - for the Mount Isa Mines Christmas Party.  Each year the mine will hold two Christmas Parties to accommodate all the shift workers.   All food and drinks are supplied, Santa comes along and gives the kids a Christmas gift bag of various goodies suitable for their age group - and then - all the lights are turned off and we are entertained with a lovely display of fireworks.

After the Christmas Party - I dragged my poor husband out of town to help me take "Geminid Meteor Shower" photos.

Although we were able to see quite a few meteor - not one of them was courteous enough to flash by my camera lens!  Not even when my husband was fully set up to view them!!

I did have a heap of fun taking other photos instead!!

A little bit of light painting on the trees
Same shot as above - but only the naturaly light of the moon is creating the shadows
Keeping an eye out for just one Geminid Meteor to zoom past!
By the light of the silvery moon - a Truckie takes a well earned break

Last but not least - we took a drive - just to get out of the house.  This time we went a little bit west and headed toward a property called Calton Hills - there was not much too see.  It is still so very dry and the land has been ravaged by fire - but they have had rain out this way and it has filled a few dams, creeks and some sections of rivers.
As I sat and ate my lunch looking out at this view in the 46deg CELCIUS heat, I wondered what it would have been like to have been an explorer 150 years (five or take) ago.  I think, in this Sunburnt Country we owe a lot to the explorers who came from much fairer and cooler climates, who did everything they could to find more and better places for us all to live.
