West Leichhardt Station is a working station of over 500 sq miles (or over 310,000 acres). Ron CROFT and his family have worked the property since the late 1920's, as well as cattle they have carved a nice niche for themselves as a great "Farm Stay".
There is a variety of accommodation choices - from lovely tent sites, that you can also park your campervan, caravan or campertrailer to airconditioned units.
They are also happy for your to drop in for the day and come and have a chat. Being "local" - that is what we did. We rang ahead, (always best when you entering someone else property) and had a lovely chat to Ron. We explained we wanted to just have look at the wonderful scenery and, for me - I really wanted to take photos.
Ron gave us some directions - I tried to listen intently - but I am sure we still got lost!!
We found a lovely little spot, that, when it rains would be a great waterhole - and also the remains of a 'lean to' once occupied by a prospector looking for gold. Things would have been tough - and by the looks of it - his digger has not faired well since he left.
West Leichhardt Station, much like many other working properties in the North West, is currently suffering under the drought conditions. With the help of "Farm Stay Camping Australia" (http://www.farmstaycampingaustralia.com.au/) a delivery of hay and copra (feed supplement for cattle) is on its way, with thanks to the donations and helping hands of many Aussie's just wanting to help out.
If you are interested in helping out or want to stay at West Leichhardt Station - give them a call - or check the out on their Facebook Page at West leichhardt Station (https://www.facebook.com/pages/West-Leichhardt-Station/227818650594089) - they would love to hear from you.
We will definitely be going back.
